Get The Support Your Smile Needs

Missing or damaged teeth can have a major influence on our lives, impacting how we feel, smile and our ability to chew food. Fortunately, dental implants provide the perfect option for replacing missing teeth. A titanium implant is inserted into the jawbone, substituting the missing root and providing the ideal structure to support replacement teeth. The outcome is teeth that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth.

Understanding Dental Implants

Dental implants are made of biocompatible materials such as titanium or zirconia, which fuse with the underlying bone over time to create a stable foundation for artificial teeth. Dental implants are placed into the jawbone in place of a missing tooth root. The implant is usually cylindrical in shape and has a rough surface to allow for better integration with the surrounding bone tissue. Once implanted, the bone and implant will fuse together through a process known as osseointegration, providing the necessary stability and support for the prosthetic crown or bridge.

Dental implants are considered one of the most effective and long-lasting methods of tooth replacement available today. Unlike conventional dentures or bridges that sit on top of the gums, dental implants integrate with the jawbone to provide superior support and prevent deterioration of the underlying bone tissue. Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth or a full arch of teeth.

Full Arch Dental Implants

Full arch dental implants, also known as the All-on-4 procedure, are a great way to replace a full set of teeth in a single procedure. The All-on-4 procedure is a revolutionary dental implant technique that involves the placement of four strategically placed titanium implants into the jawbone. These implants act as the foundation for a full-arch dental prosthesis. This procedure is becoming increasingly popular due to its effectiveness and convenience. It can be completed in one day, and the results are permanent.

What is The Dental Implant Procedure Like?

The dental implant procedure typically consists of the following four stages:

  1. A comprehensive dental exam
  2. Treatment planning
  3. Implant placement
  4. Prosthetic attachment

The entire process can take anywhere from a few months to a year or more, depending on the complexity of the case and the individual’s healing capacity.

The first stage of the procedure involves a thorough examination of the patient’s dental and medical history, physical evaluation, and diagnostic tests such as CT scans. This helps the dentist determine whether dental implants are the right solution for the patient and develop a personalised treatment plan that addresses their specific needs.

Some patients may feel anxious about undergoing surgery to place dental implants. However, modern techniques such as computer-guided implant placement or sedation can help minimise discomfort and speed up recovery time.

Once the treatment plan is in place, the next step is to surgically place the implant into the jawbone. This is usually done under local anaesthesia or IV sedation to ensure that the patient is comfortable throughout the procedure.

While there is some risk involved in any surgical procedure, dental implant surgery has a high success rate (up to 98%) and carries very low risks of complications when performed by an experienced implant dentist.

Do You Qualify for the Implant Treatment?

Dental implants are undoubtedly one of the best solutions for missing or damaged teeth, but not everyone can qualify for the treatment. There are a few factors that determine if dental implants are right for you.

First and foremost, you need to have a healthy jawbone to support the implant. A bone graft may be necessary if the jawbone is not thick enough or too soft. Gum disease is another crucial factor in determining eligibility. Patients with severe gum issues may not be able to undergo implant surgery.

Ultimately, only a dentist experienced in implant dentistry should determine whether you qualify for dental implants or not. So it’s important to schedule an initial implant consultation where the dentist will consider your unique circumstances before recommending any treatments.

However, we have created an implant suitability quiz that identifies whether you are a candidate for dental implant surgery. Take the quiz and we’ll send your result immediately.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants provide significant benefits over other tooth replacement options like bridges and dentures. Think of dental implants as artificial tooth roots that anchor your new tooth firmly in place. Unlike dental bridges that rely on adjacent teeth for support, implant-supported teeth stand on their own without affecting surrounding teeth. For many patients, getting dental implants means avoiding costly and frequent trips to the dentist for repairs. Overall, dental implants offer some significant advantages over other tooth replacement options:

Restore Natural Looking Teeth

The loss of teeth can lead to a plethora of issues, including affecting the quality of life, self-esteem, and the ability to perform everyday activities. Dental implants offer an ideal solution to replace missing teeth and restore one’s natural appearance. The implants look and function like natural teeth, providing patients with an improved oral aesthetic. You can regain your confidence and enjoy a natural-looking smile.

Additionally, dental implants prevent the deterioration of the jawbone caused by the absence of a tooth’s root. When a tooth is lost or extracted, the bone that supports it naturally deteriorates over time due to a lack of stimulation. Dental implants are anchored into the jawbone, which helps stimulate bone growth and prevent further bone loss. This not only eliminates the risk of losing more teeth but also helps preserve facial structure.

Maintaining Oral Health

Apart from restoring a natural appearance, dental implants provide several oral health benefits. These include improving speech clarity and reducing gaps between teeth that may cause food particles to get trapped and result in gum disease.

Dental implants not only prevent bone loss but also help protect remaining teeth and gums. The absence of a tooth causes the adjacent teeth to shift, creating gaps that can trap food particles and lead to gum disease or cavities. With dental implants, there is no shifting of teeth, ensuring your oral health remains healthy.

Moreover, as removable dentures or dental bridges rest on the gums, these can cause abrasions or sores, leading to infections. Dental implants avoid this since they are permanently anchored into the jawbone, minimising the risk of infections.

The Cost of Dental Implants

One of the most common questions we are asked when it comes to dental implants is their cost. However, it’s important to note that every patient’s case is unique, and therefore the cost of dental implants varies based on several factors. Generally, the total costs of a dental implant procedure include consultation and diagnostic tests, implant fixture or post-placement, abutment placement, crown placement, and follow-up care.

The average cost of a single dental implant in Sydney ranges from $5500 to $6500. The cost may increase or decrease, depending on various factors such as the complexity of the case, the number of implants needed, any additional procedures required before or after treatment, and the type of implant used.

While dental implants may seem more costly than bridgework or dentures, they prove to be more cost-effective over time since they last much longer than the alternative options.

Does Insurance Cover Dental Implants?

In some cases, insurance providers cover a particular portion of the treatment cost. This could decrease the out-of-pocket costs for patients. Nevertheless, it’s always wise to gain approval from your insurance provider about the covered expenses before proceeding with the surgery.

Dental Implant Payment Plan

Financing and interest-free payment options are available for patients who need them. A large percentage of patients choose to finance their procedures to spread the cost of treatment over several months with no up-front deposit required.
